“Help us through difficult times”
With all its Retail shops closed since early March, donations in sharp decline, and fundraising events cancelled or indefinitely postponed, the Charity is facing unprecedented financial losses in the wake of the current Coronavirus healthcare crisis.
Not since the World War II have multiple generations experienced such unprecedented and uncertain times, with the overall impact on our country and the local health and social care economy, almost incomprehensible. The nation has seen so much disruption, sadness and misfortune caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and as with so many others, the Rowans Hospice Charity has also been seriously affected.
In support of the national effort, the Charity’s costs are now very much higher as they greatly increase capacity to care for more people in their own home through their Hospice at Home team, and the Hospice In-patient Unit. With almost 90% of income driven by their Retail shops and community fundraising events, the Charity is now facing unprecedented financial losses, following all shops closing in early March and all fundraising events being shelved indefinitely.
The Charity is renowned for high quality palliative and specialist end of life care, with its role essential in supporting the NHS in its fight against COVID-19. Today, and over the coming weeks and months, the care the Hospice provides is now more important than ever before. Although the Charity works outside of the immediate acute care trust, it continues to work exceptionally hard, supporting NHS colleagues in the COVID effort and transferring patients from hospital to a more tranquil and peaceful environment.
As the Charity prepares for the aftermath and long-haul to recovery from this global pandemic, reliance on voluntary donations is now more critical than ever before. In support of their Appeal, the Charity is calling upon supporters, corporate partners and the community for help to raise vital and much-needed funds to shore-up the future of Hospice Care for patients with life-limiting illnesses, as well as support for their families and carers, from the moment of diagnosis through to bereavement support. All care is given without charge.
The Appeal is asking supporters to help in one of two ways: supporters can now make a regular monthly donation from as little as £3 per month which, in the longer term, will help the Charity predict income and protect its future.
