Thank you to our Amazing Volunteers at Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association!
Like many charities, Portsmouth DSA relies heavily on volunteers who generously donate their time and expertise on a regular basis. “We are very fortunate to have such a large and dedicated team of volunteers at Portsmouth DSA, many of whom have been volunteering regularly since the charity’s inception 12 years ago,” says Chairperson Rachael Ross MBE. “Their crucial input and invaluable experience enable us to keep overheads low and offer a more extensive range of specialist support for our young people.”
“We try to offer a variety of realistic opportunities which require varying levels of commitment, from helping out at a coffee morning for 2 hours a month all the way through to admin roles of several hours a week. We are immensely fortunate to even have one full-time volunteer. There’s something for everyone.”
Volunteering has huge benefits for the individuals themselves, often improving self-esteem and mental health, and providing an opportunity to learn new skills and be a valued member of a community.
Scott Morgan has been an active volunteer with Portsmouth DSA since his daughter Kezia was born. “I'm proud to volunteer for Portsmouth DSA, using my experiences to help other families and raise awareness in the wider community. Volunteering is hugely rewarding and it's great to be able to give back to a charity that has helped our family so much already.
