Transport to Vaccination Appointments Available Through Community First
Havant Borough residents who need help getting to their COVID-19 vaccination appointment can now book transport through Hampshire charity Community First. The service is also available for travel to other medical appointments.
Community First already operates the successful Call and Go service in Havant Borough. In light of the current COVID-19 vaccine drive and the ongoing lockdown restrictions, the charity, with the support of Hampshire County Council, has dedicated some of its transport capacity to help people get to vaccination and medical appointments.
The service provides a safe, secure and affordable way of getting to essential appointments. All our minibuses are accessible and COVID secure and operated by trained drivers. A door-to-door service is available, making it more accessible and easier than public transport. Residents will pay a small fare for their journey in line with local bus fares and the service accepts bus passes to reduce this cost. The Transport Co-ordinator will provide the specific rate for each journey when booking.
Tim Houghton, Community First’s Chief Executive, explains: “We’ve been offering our support to vulnerable people throughout the pandemic and want to help support the roll out of the vaccine. We know people will be anxious about going out and getting the vaccine and for some getting to and from the vaccination centre or to a GP or hospital appointment is difficult and a worry. We’re grateful to Hampshire County Council for allowing us to adapt our services in these difficult times.”
Residents who wish to book a journey for a vaccination or medical appointment should contact Community First's local transport team on 02393 871724 or by email: havanttransport@cfirst.org.uk. Please have the date, time and location of your appointment ready when you contact the service.
