On your marks… get set… BAKE!
Rowans Hospice Charity launches latest fundraising initiative ‘Rowans’ Great BIG Bake Off’. A virtual bake off proudly supported and judged by Dave Friday, Finalist in the iconic Great British Bake Off 2020.
Rowans Hospice Charity has launched its latest virtual fundraising event ‘Rowans’ Great BIG Bake Off’ to once again lift the community’s spirits and raise much-needed funds, as it begins the long-haul to recovery after facing such devastating losses to income due to the pandemic.
With the nation once again bitten by the baking bug as ‘The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer’ returns to Channel 4, the Charity boasts its own celebrity line up with 2020 GBBO Finalist, Dave Friday coming on board to support the event. Keen to get behind the fundraiser, Dave has challenged local bakers to create their own Signature Showstopper in the theme of “what are you most looking forward to after lockdown”.
When asked why he wanted to support the fundraiser, Dave said, “Living locally to Rowans Hospice, I am acutely aware of the ongoing strain the pandemic has placed on the Charity. With all their physical fundraising events being cancelled in 2020, it feels so important to help where I can by adding some weight to this campaign. As you know, I love to bake so I run regular charity bake alongs; Rowans’ Great BIG Bake Off is just a little bit different and I cannot wait to see local supporters rising to the occasion and creating their signature bakes for our post-lockdown themed Showstopper.”
Anyone wanting to take part in the Charity’s virtual Bake Off is invited to submit a 30-second 360˚ video of their Signature Showstopper, including the showstopper being cut, along with a list of their ingredients to the Charity by 13 April. All entries will be viewed by GBBO Finalist Dave Friday and the Charity, then shortlisted down to ten finalists by 16 April, when the fun will really start to hot up.
Across two weeks, the Charity will showcase the ten finalists’ 360˚ Showstopper videos on its social media platforms, inviting the audience to cast a vote for their favourite bake on the Charity’s official poll, as well as make a donation to their favourite baker’s JustGiving page.
Bringing the contest to a close on 30 April, the Rowans’ Great BIG Bake Off Final will feature all ten bakes broadcast on Facebook on Friday 30 April, when the overall winner will be announced by Dave using the final number of votes cast on the Official Bake Off poll.
Debbie Pick, Fundraising Lead at Rowans Hospice Charity, said, “People love the highly acclaimed televised Great British Bake-Off show and with the current Celebrity SU2C Bake Off, this is a great opportunity for people to show off their baking skills. So while we are all still under lockdown, from the safety of our own homes we’re launching our own virtual edition. It has almost become tradition during lockdown to bake banana cake - who will become our very own Star Baker with their Showstopper? We’re delighted Dave Friday, finalist from GBBO in 2020 is supporting the event – he will have the tough decision of judging all entries, and whilst we are unable to taste all things sugar and spice, Dave will be looking for creativity, imagination and inspiration with the theme “what are you looking forward to after lockdown”. If you want to take part, simply send us your 30-second 360˚ video, but don’t forget to cut a slice by 13 April and we will be in touch – good luck, get making and baking your masterpiece”
As well as casting a vote on the official poll, the Charity is encouraging supporters of the ten Bake Off Finalists to make a donation to their favourite’s JustGiving page, helping to ensure that specialist end of life Hospice care is available for patients and families affected by progressive and life-limiting illnesses, now and into the future.
