Rowans Hospice Charitys Lake Of Lights Event - The Directory Group

Rowans Hospice Charity's Lake of Lights Event

The event will be an opportunity for the community to come together to reflect on memories shared with loved ones who are no longer with us.

As in previous years, Rowans Hospice Charity's Lake of Lights in-memory event is taking place at Canoe Lake in Southsea. The community is invited to come along on Sunday, 18 December 2022, to remember loved ones they have lost, and dedicate a candle that will be placed on the lake, creating a magical ‘Lake of Lights'. Everyone is welcome to attend, whether they have received support from the Charity or not.

The event will start at 17:00 hrs with a remembrance service commencing at 17:45 hrs, led by the Charity’s Spiritual Care Chaplain, Carol Gully. The Purbrook Community Choir will sing Christmas carols, followed by a performance from the Gosport Solent Brass Band to create a beautiful evening of remembrance. Parking will be available along the Seafront from Eastney to South Parade Pier, along with the Canoe Lake Car Park. The event will come to an end at approximately 19:00 hrs.

Carol Milner, Director of People Services & Income Generation, says “Christmas is a special time of the year for so many of us. It is a time to create new memories with the people we love while also remembering the loved ones we have lost. The Lake of Lights event is an uplifting and meaningful event for people in our community to remember people who are no longer with us, while also supporting the care we provide at Rowans Hospice Charity.”

The event is part of the national 'Light Up A Life' campaign, a series of in-memory community events organised by Hospices during the festive period.

Anyone unable to attend the Lake of Lights event can dedicate a candle in memory of a loved one on the Charity's online Tree of Lights instead. Dedications can be combined with a donation to the Light Up A Life Appeal, which will directly support the delivery of local Hospice care. For more information, visit www.rowanshospice.co.uk/event/light-up-a-life-lake-of-lights/

About Rowans Hospice Charity:

Rowans Hospice is a local charity providing specialist end of life Hospice care and support to patients with life-limiting illnesses resident in Portsmouth and South East Hampshire, and to their relatives and carers. The highly trained team of Hospice staff work hard to improve their patients' quality of life by easing physical symptoms, as well as offering psychological, spiritual and social support to patients, their family and friends. Services are provided free of charge, and care is available around the clock.

In order to provide the best possible service for patients and their loved ones, Rowans Hospice Charity depends on the support from donors and from a dedicated and loyal team of Volunteers. The Charity receives a very small level of statutory funding from the Government, however, the majority of the money required to provide services needs to be raised through voluntary giving each year. This would not be achieved without help and support from the local community.
