Beautiful ballet, Revolting rhymes
Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes are reimagined through dance when Ballet Cymru’s Roald Dahl’s Little Red Riding Hood & The Three Little Pigs comes to Theatre Royal Winchester on Tuesday 10 October.
Roald Dahl is well known for being one of the greatest storytellers in the world. With Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, George’s Marvellous Medicine and The Witches some of his most famous and beloved children’s books, Dahl’s stories have been translated into 68 languages and are read all over the world.
This production of Little Red Riding Hood & The Three Little Pigs – two poems taken from Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes, a collection of his poetry first published in 1982 – features music from composer, Paul Patterson, and dance from Ballet Cymru.
Ballet Cymru is an award-winning international touring Welsh ballet company whose choreography showcases dancers from Wales and around the world. Previous productions include Giselle – a powerful story of love and loss; Divided We Stand – motivated by the division of society’s political views and gender; and Dream – a full-length ballet based on Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
British composer Paul Patterson has seen his work performed by all the major orchestras of the UK and around the world; while he has also made significant contributions to many of the country’s leading musical institutions including, at the Royal Academy of Music, a pioneering series of annual Composer Festivals.
For this production, Ballet Cymru return to their roots – Roald Dahl’s Welsh connections are well known – and continue to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Wales.
Featuring glorious costumes and stunning video productions, this laugh out loud production is classical ballet that adults and children will enjoy.
